Moolah Shrine Circus 1992

An assortment of photos of circuses performing in St. Louis have been found in my father's collection. Unfortunately, most are unlabeled and they all are mixed up. An effort is underway to sort the photographs and identify the herds and handlers. St. Louis, Missouri, is the hometown of ShowMe Elephants. It has been fun identifying these sets.

This group of photographs is identified as the 1992 Moolah Shrine Circus by an electronic display in the background. The ring curbs have changed from the blue and white patterns used previously at the shows in Busch Stadium. Veteran elephant handler Gary Thomas confirms the two foreground acts are those from the Hawthorn Corporation and identifies the handlers in each. The young African elephant act in the back is presented by Lou Ann Jacobs-Barreda.

The first Hawthorn act is presented by Roy Wells. The identity of the elephants is unknown.

The second Hawthorn act is presented by Allan Campbell, featuring two Asian cows and two Africans. The identity of the elephants is unknown, though the one-tusked African may be Tyke.

I eagerly anticipate associating with new individuals with an interest or history in elephants, elephant history and elephant record keeping. If you have further information regarding the animals or locations questioned in the article, please leave a comment or message me in an effort to complete their records for elephant historians.
