Mindi Scott Collection - Hank

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Pachyderm keeper Mindi Scott has been gracious enough to share some photographs in her collection of her current charges at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. 23 year old Hank arrived in December 2010 from Riddle's Elephant Sanctuary under advisement of the Species Survival Plan. He replaced the zoo's prior breeding bull, Coco.

    Scott probably named him Hank in remembrance of the infamous Hank from Daily Bros, Incidentally Hank was a female and her name was Henrietta. johnny

    Mr. Herriott,
    Thank you for sharing. I wish I had spent more time asking Scott about elephant history during my visits to his fantastic facility while my dad worked there. I am very interested in the history of this animal, due to many blank spots in his records. The Studbook lists him with several other names - Rajah, Sammy and Curley. I do not know which he was given after birth at Busch Gardens, but he was named Sammy wile at the Bronx Zoo. He was at several other facilities before Gary Johnson purchased him, but they are unrecorded. I have heard rumors that both the Hawthorn Corporation and Bones Craig owned him. Do you know anything about where he has been or if this was one that Bones used for rides? If Scott renamed him Hank, what did the Johnsons call him? I hope you can add more to this mystery!

    I used to work for Bones, He said that at the time he owned him, Hank was called Toby and was young/small.
